Perfect Bench For A Tiny Home
Turn a dresser into a bench for the perfect bench for a tiny home. I have been seeing so many old dressers online that are turned into beautiful furniture.It is a big plus in a tiny home because it also adds a little storage as well.
The featured bench is mine and a couple of friends did the work and did a beautiful job. It reminds me of a window seat, which I have always felt were lovely to look at.
The challenge of finding small furniture is the smaller space and the door width. The doors that Dave puts in the cabins are 32” to 36”, so you need to make sure you can get your furniture through the door.
Dave usually likes to place the front door to the side instead of centered in the middle, so there can be room for furniture to the right of the door. This is why I think the dresser made into a little bench or sofa is ideal for the cabins. You can make it for one or two people and can very easily fit through the door.
Before Pictures
I found this great old solid wood dresser at a thrift shop and I knew it would be perfect as a bench. I originally was going to put it in my tiny home rental, but I had to keep it for my bedroom. Two of the drawers were removed.
Top Is Removed
The top of the dresser was removed and is going to be used as the bench.
Wood Filler
The dresser was a little rough and wood was added on the back, side and top and thenwood filler was used to fill in the holes where the wood was added and where the old drawer pulls were, because I changed to knobs. It was sanded and painted and I think it turned out really pretty. The pillows and sham match my bedspread and I loved how the standard sham was the perfect pillow for the bench.
There are so many different colors and styles that can be created. One plus with this kind of furniture is the fact that you can use washable pillow covers and shams, which is really important when you have dogs.
